Synopsis:
When a letter accusing a revered cult leader of abuse surfaces in a small Indian town, rookie detective Roohi is sent to investigate. Confronted by a wall of silence and blind devotion, she must navigate a closed community to uncover the truth no one dares to speak.
Bayaan was officially selected for its World Premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, in the prestigious Discovery Section — a platform that has previously launched the careers of acclaimed filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, and Barry Jenkins.
The film was also supported by the International Film Festival Rotterdam's Hubert Bals Fund and was developed at LA Residency, a part of the Global Media Makers (GMM) program of Film Independent, Los Angeles. During the course of the residency, Bikas Mishra was mentored by Craig Mazin (HBO's Chernobyl) and received advice on the script from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson.
